Biography

Julia LaChica is a Japanese/Filipino multidisciplinary visual artist, designer, and educator based in Oakland, CA. Her practice encompasses storytelling through painting, printmaking, collage, and assemblage, exploring themes of identity and culture. In addition to her studio work, Julia leads printmaking workshops that foster creative expression and community building, using art as a powerful tool for dialogue, healing, and empowerment.

Artist Statement

My paintings and visual constructions reveal the multilayered ways personal memory, collective experience, and cultural history take on material form. In my work, I consciously create a sense of an intimate archive that reaches across time by integrating found objects, distressed elements, and aged materials. Through these processes, I aim to reveal how corrosion, rust, and wear accumulate on bodies and surfaces over time.
