The Drawing Room SF

At the end of 2025 through early 2026, I showed nine pieces in The Monster Art Show at The Drawing Room in San Francisco, alongside a wonderful and talented group of fellow artists.

My work builds up in layers — marks, scratches, drips of paint — the way old walls do when they've held stories for a long time. Folklore and ritual show up in the surfaces without my planning it that way. Some of it's intuitive, some of it I work at.

For this series, I paired textured, gestural canvases with figural images clipped from old magazines. It fit the show's theme better than I expected. Eight of the nine pieces are mixed media on canvas, and most of them started from nothing — just play, a few marks, some found imagery — until a shape or a face started to look back at me. That's usually when I know something's there. The monsters in this work aren't designed. They show up.
